What do followers of Jesus believe?

What do followers of Jesus believe?

Followers of Jesus believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God; that He lived a perfect life; that He died in our place, to pay for our sins and that He defeated death by rising again to life. Because of this we can have a personal relationship with a holy God since all of our sins (which separated us from God) have been forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Therefore, we have confidence that we will spend eternity with Him in heaven after we die. The Bible explains it this way: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) (All Verses quoted are taken from the Holy Bible)

1. Who is Jesus (Isa al-Masih)?

Jesus (al-Masih) is God’s Son and the Savior who came to rescue us from sin and death. Though He left heaven to live among us as a perfect human, He is also fully divine. In the opening of Injeel John, we read, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). Jesus said, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand” (John 10:28). One day, He will return as King of kings and Lord of lords to complete God’s plan for the world.

2. Is Jesus more than just a prophet?

While Jesus did bring God’s message to the Earth, He claimed to be even more than a prophet: He said He is the divine Son of God and the very Word of God. For example, He declared, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). While on Earth, Jesus performed many miracles. He healed the sick, raised the dead, restored vision to the blind, and hearing to the deaf. He drove out evil spirits in those who were oppressed. He even had authority on Earth to forgive sins. No prophet did these things or lived without sin, as Jesus did. As the apostle Peter wrote, “Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His steps. ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth’” (1 Peter 2:21–22). This sets Him apart from every other messenger.

3. Did Jesus really die?

Yes. On a cross, Jesus endured intense suffering and sacrificed His life as full payment for our sins. He was buried in a tomb. But on the third day, He rose from the dead—just as He promised. As the angel told the women at the tomb, “He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He lay” (Matthew 28:6). His resurrection proves He has power over death and offers new life to everyone who trusts in Him.

4. What does Jesus offer me?

When you put your trust in Jesus, He transforms you from within. You receive the Holy Spirit—God’s presence living inside you. Jesus said, “The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 14:26). He comes to give abundant life: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). He also gives deep peace: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).

5. How can I begin a personal relationship with Jesus?

The Bible makes it simple: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). When you ask Jesus to forgive your sins and give Him leadership of your life as your Lord, God forgives all your sins and makes you a new person (Acts 2:38; 2 Corinthians 5:17). After this we begin our life with Jesus through following His example and command of baptism. Your salvation cannot be earned or achieved by good works—salvation is a gift that you must decide to receive or reject. Jesus fulfilled your requirements of good works through His life, which is given to you through faith, so that God gets all the glory: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9).

7. Is there any other path to heaven besides Jesus?

No. Jesus Himself declared, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). He also warned, “If you do not believe that I am He, you will indeed die in your sins” (John 8:24). Peter reinforced this by saying, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

8. Do Followers of Jesus worship three gods?

No. Followers of Jesus believe in one God who exists eternally as three distinct Persons—the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit—yet each Person is fully and equally God. This is the doctrine of the Trinity. For example, Jesus instructed His followers, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name (singular) of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). Just as Adam and Eve were two distinct persons yet became “one flesh” (Genesis 2:24), the three Persons of the Trinity share a perfect unity. Muslims have a title for Jesus, "Isa Ruhallah," which means (1) Isa = Jesus, (2) Ruh (Roo) = Spirit, (3) Allah = God. This is three in one. Muslims also say "Isa Kalamullah," which means "Isa is the Word of God.” A person’s word and spirit cannot be separate from the person. They are all one person.

9. What is the Bible?

The Bible is God’s written revelation to humanity. It’s a library of 66 books—39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament—written by around 40 authors over 1,500 years. 10. Has the Bible been corrupted or changed?

Although there are many translations and human authors, the Bible remains remarkably consistent from Genesis to Revelation. People have tried throughout history to prove mistakes in it, but none have succeeded. Its unity and life-changing power testify to divine protection. If you wonder about its reliability, we encourage you to read it yourself—perhaps starting in the Gospel of John, where you’ll meet Jesus directly. Because of modern translation protocols and the use of the oldest manuscripts for translation, a Muslim can safely read the entire New Testament available to Muhammad in their native language without concern of accidental or intentional change.

11. Why is the Bible so important?

The Bible is God’s instruction for every person. As Paul wrote, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17). It’s our guide to understanding who God is, how He loves us, and how we can live in relationship with Him.

12. Does God hear and answer prayers?

Yes—God listens to every prayer and cares about what’s on your heart. Jesus taught, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7–8). You can talk to Him honestly about your needs, fears, and hopes, knowing that He understands you completely.

Jesus showed us that prayer is simply talking to God—no special direction, place, or ritual is required. You can pray anywhere, anytime, in public or private, aloud or silently. He said, “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3). Prayer is a heart-to-heart conversation with God, who delights in hearing from you.

14. If God is good, why does suffering exist?

God did not create pain or suffering—these entered the world when humanity rebelled against Him in Eden. Because of sin, our world is broken, and we face illness, injustice, and natural suffering. Yet God promises that one day Jesus will return to make all things right. Revelation 21:4 says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Until then, God comforts those who suffer and invites us to trust Him, even when we don’t fully understand why difficult things happen.
